When should fall protection be used? OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926, Subpart M requires that in any situation where a worker is more than 6 feet above the ground or lower level must wear fall protection. A safety harness connected to a secure mount using retractable or shock absorbing lanyards will protect the worker from a potentially fatal fall. Safety harnesses have an average use-life expectancy of five years; however, safety managers must inspect for damage of any type and evaluate workers fall protection devices frequently to assure worker safety. Dropping a tool from height can cause severe injury or death on the ground and waste time while it is retrieved. Tool lanyards keep workers' tools connected and safe, so they can keep working. Be connected, be safe!
